Mathaus Entertainment continues to
do the right thing by donating a
portion of the proceeds from music
sales to benefit the WINGS
organization. By purchasing
our music, you are making a lasting
contribution to those who need it
most; woman and children in need of
safe shelter.
About WINGS
WINGS (Women In Need Growing
Stronger) has been serving women and
kids who were homeless or suffering
the effects of domestic violence
since 1985. In addition to providing
housing (WINGS has a 45-bed
emergency shelter, 4 shared-living
homes in Barrington, Palatine,
Schaumburg and Park Ridge, a
four-flat in Skokie and 16
apartments scattered throughout the
north and northwest suburbs) we also
offer services that include
financial and emotional counseling,
career assistance, children & family
services, hospital and legal
advocacy, referrals, mentoring, goal
setting, food pantries, and
assistance with back-to-school
supplies, holidays and other special
events.
The length of time a woman stays in
WINGS housing varies. Our emergency
domestic violence shelter, or Safe
House, allows single women and women
with children to stay for up to 90
days. Our bedrooms are family-style
so that children will feel secure at
all times and activities and
services are planned for children to
help them deal with the trauma they
have experienced.
WINGS 4 shared living homes are
designed for unemployed women and,
depending on the size of the home,
will accommodate 1 to 3 families at
a time. During the six months stay,
staff works closely with women to
develop a resume and find
employment.
WINGS apartments, scattered
throughout Arlington Heights, Des
Plaines, Hoffman Estates, Palatine,
Schaumburg, and Skokie, allow women
to stay for 2 years. During this
time women set personal goals that
enables them to work, go to school,
and care for themselves and their
children. While living in the
apartments, women pay 30% of their
adjusted gross income to offset
their costs. Women are not required
to pay anything while living in the
Safe House or shared-living homes.
WINGS is able to provide 1-on-1
individualized attention to the
women and children we serve. This
commitment by staff and volunteers
leads to greater opportunities of
growth and a higher likelihood of
achieving emotional independence,
financial stability, and a life free
from violence.
WINGS is funded entirely by
donations and receives funding from
a very diverse group that includes
individuals, corporations,
foundations, faith communities,
civic organizations, federal, state
and local governments, special
events and our own three Resale
stores. In fact, thirty percent of
WINGS income is derived from Resale!
WINGS staff, Board of Directors and
volunteers are very proud of the
many women who have successfully
graduated from our programming.
WINGS Safe House, which opened in
January, 1985, has been a critical
step for women fleeing violence in
their homes. We would love to be
able to give you and your client a
tour of the shelter so you can see
for yourselves some of the great
work that has been accomplished on
behalf of those in greatest need.
